Airborne Museum
at the Bridge

Airborne at the Bridge tells the story of the British soldiers who defended the northern end of the Rijnbrug in September 1944. At this information centre, close to the John Frost Bridge, you can experience the Battle of Arnhem through the eyes of Lieutenant John Grayburn and discover why the bridge ultimately proved to be “a bridge too far”.

Walk across the Ginkelse Heide, where the airborne landings took place, or recreate the famous Major Richard Dick Winters photograph at Schoonderlogt.

Wartime at Kasteel Rosendael

Kasteel Rosendael still bears the traces of the Second World War. The castle was hit by an incendiary bomb, while another bomb came down in the park. In 1945, further heavy shelling followed, while dozens of evacuees found shelter there.

British artillery was positioned around the church, while the nearby rectory was used as a medical post. The church was one of the last positions held before the withdrawal across the Rhine.
